112 FIRs Filed for Over-Speeding on Major Motorways
The National Highways and Motorway Police (NH&MP) have stepped up their efforts to curb over-speeding on major motorways across the country. So far, they have registered 112 FIRs against drivers caught exceeding the speed limit of 150 km/h. The crackdown has been primarily focused on the Lahore-Sialkot Motorway (M2), Lahore-Multan Motorway (M3), and Motorways M4 and M5. According to the NH&MP spokesperson, drivers caught breaking the speed limits have been taken into custody along with their vehicles and handed over to the local police. The FIRs filed include charges of reckless and negligent driving.
A breakdown of the FIRs reveals that 8 cases were registered on the Lahore-Sialkot Motorway, 43 on the Lahore-Islamabad Motorway (M2), 8 on the Lahore-Abdul Hakeem Motorway (M3), 12 on the Multan-Pindi Bhattian Motorway (M4), and 41 on the Sukkur-Multan Motorway (M5). These numbers highlight the strict measures taken to ensure road safety and reduce the risk of accidents caused by excessive speeding.
The NH&MP has reminded the public that the speed limit for private vehicles on three-lane motorways is 120 km/h, while for public transport, it is set at 110 km/h. Ignoring these speed limits poses a serious threat to the safety of all road users. Inspector General of Motorway Police, Riffat Mukhtar Raja, has emphasized the need for stricter enforcement and has directed officials to intensify their efforts to combat over-speeding.
The Motorway Police have urged all motorists to adhere to speed limits and traffic rules to help prevent accidents and ensure the safety of everyone traveling on national highways. Their commitment to maintaining safe and secure roadways remains firm, and they continue to work toward reducing reckless driving practices.
