Pakistan Announces Three-Day Public Holiday for Eidul Fitr

The government has officially declared a three-day public holiday for Eidul Fitr, spanning from March 31 to April 2, 2025 (Monday to Wednesday). This announcement was confirmed in a notification issued by the Cabinet Division on Wednesday.

However, the exact date of Eid celebrations will be determined by the sighting of the Shawwal moon. The Central Ruet-i-Hilal Committee, along with regional moon-sighting committees, is set to convene on the evening of March 30 (Sunday) to observe the new moon, which will mark the end of Ramazan.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, there is a strong likelihood of the Shawwal moon being sighted on March 30. A notification issued on March 7 also supports this prediction. Meanwhile, the Pakistan Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) had previously forecasted that Ramazan would begin on March 2, with Eidul Fitr expected to fall on March 31.

Eidul Fitr is one of the most significant Islamic festivals, celebrated at the end of Ramazan, a month of fasting and spiritual reflection for Muslims worldwide. The holiday is marked by prayers, feasting, and gatherings with family and friends.

In preparation for the festivities, Pakistan Railways has announced the operation of four special trains to accommodate increased travel demand. These trains will run on key routes, including Quetta to Peshawar via Sibbi, Sukkur/Rohri, Khanewal, Lahore, and Rawalpindi, ensuring smoother travel for passengers during the holiday season.
