Major Relief for Wheat Farmers in Punjab: Free Movement and Private Sector Involvement
Big Relief for Wheat Farmers in Punjab
The Punjab government has just rolled out a huge relief measure for wheat farmers by allowing the free movement of wheat within and beyond the province, according to ARY News.
Under this new policy, farmers can now freely transport wheat across provincial borders without any restrictions, giving them the opportunity to sell their crops in markets that offer the best prices. This move is expected to boost their profits and ease market access.
In a major shift, the private sector will also be allowed to buy wheat directly from farmers for the first time. This will provide farmers with more selling options and could lead to better prices due to increased competition among buyers.
The deregulation of the wheat market is set to improve market dynamics and potentially raise prices for farmers. Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif recently chaired a high-level meeting to review the wheat procurement policy and discuss the state of pre-harvest wheat production. She praised the farmers for their outstanding efforts in achieving record wheat production and expressed deep appreciation for their hard work.
In addition, the meeting highlighted the Punjab government's initiative to distribute 1,000 tractors free of charge to wheat farmers, aiming to enhance agricultural productivity. The government also reaffirmed its commitment to supporting wheat procurement through the private sector, ensuring a free-market approach.
The Chief Minister emphasized that the welfare of farmers would always be a top priority, stating, "Farmers are our brothers, and their interests will be safeguarded under all circumstances."
This latest step is just one of many farmer-friendly policies introduced under CM Maryam Nawaz’s leadership, continuing the government's focus on strengthening the agricultural sector.
